When you see the clubhouse poised nobly on the rolling hillside
of The Harvester Golf Club, it is hard to discern whether the
majestic building was built to keep up with the course, or whether
the course was built as a package worthy of the clubhouse
and its restaurant, The View.
The facility blends beautifully with the countryside
atmosphere of The Harvester Tournament Course and invites thoughts
of an Iowa farmhouse. The clubhouse is the perfect facility
for events of all kinds, one of the goals for designer Dick
Shook.
"It was an arduous processit took
time to make the best use of the space, but the result is everywhere
you look from the clubhouse is a simply beautiful view. The
orientation of the building was perfect for the landscape,"
said Shook.
Dickson Jensen, owner and developer of The Harvester,
knew Shook was more than perfect for the design task. "He's
the best designer I know," said Jensen. "He has incredible
vision and creativity. Nothing with Dick is ever average. From
the clubhouse to all the homesteads, Dick knows the real meaning
of the word 'custom'."
And Shook proved Jensen correct. The result
is a farmhouse feel that's "quaint, comfortable, and so
restful. Time slows way down when I'm there" said Shook.
While the 19,000 sq. ft. building includes a
pro shop and locker rooms, the clubhouse also accommodates parties
of all sizesfrom a simple meal with the family to corporate
meetings to the most elaborate of weddings. Complete with a
200-person ballroom and private dressing rooms for brides and
grooms, the clubhouse plays host to several area events including
high school proms, family reunions, society banquets and awards
dinners.
Nearly one acre of patio space overlooks the
Tournament Course and surrounding countryside. A view like that
can almost make a golfer forget that brutal slice on the 15th
hole.
